On Wednesday, May 24, the Senate Energy and Natural Resource's Public Lands and Forests Subcommittee will hold a hearing on the Eastern Sierra Rural Heritage and Economic Enhancement Act (S. 2567) co-sponsored by Senators Feinstein and Boxer. This bill proposes to designate 40,320 acres as wilderness and 24 miles as Wild and Scenic Rivers. A companion bill (H. 5149) was introduced in the House by Rep. Buck McKeon on April 6, 2006, and has been referred to the House Resources Committee.
