  • Congress took an important step in permanently protecting California's wild places with the introduction of the Northern California Coastal Wild Heritage Wilderness Act of 2003.
     
  • New R.S. 2477 Regulations Threaten Wilderness, Public Lands Nationwide

  • On January 6, 2003, Interior Secretary Norton issued new "disclaimer regulations" that could be used to give away public lands in our national parks, wildlife refuges, and other special places.
     
  • Citizens Propose "Keep the Medicine Bow WILD" Alternative to Forest Plan

  • The citizens' plan calls for the protection of the Medicine Bow's ancient forests, its deep canyons, its high alpine slopes, and the plants and animals that make these wild places home.
     
  • Wilderness Brief: "Alabama's Mountain Treasures" Unveiled

  • On Monday, March 17, 2003, The Wilderness Society (TWS), Alabama Environmental Council, Wild Alabama and Alabama Rivers Alliance cosponsored an event to announce the release of "Alabama's Mountain Treasures."
     
  • Arctic Update: Senate Votes "No" on Drilling in the Arctic Refuge

  • The U.S. Senate voted on March 19, 2003 in favor (52-48) of an amendment to strip from a pending budget resolution a provision that would have paved the way for drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
