On February 13, the House and Senate approved the FY 2003 Omnibus Appropriations bill with some of the most egregious anti-wilderness provisions removed while others were approved as part of the final measure.
The first ever Chugach Wilderness Summit, held on the Kenai Peninsula, was a huge success, with 65 citizen participants from communities all across the Chugach National Forest.
On January 17, the BLM released a Draft Environmental Impact Statement analyzing four alternatives for the future management of the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska.
